IDFC Institute and Indian Police Foundation co-hosted a webinar on ‘Pandemic Policing: Health, Well-being and Morale of Police Personnel for Operational Continuity and Resilience.
Speakers included DG, CRPF AP Maheshwari, DGPs, Police Commissioners from various states including Subodh Jaiswal, SN Srivatsava, Manoj Yadava, Praveen Sood, AK Singh, Loknath Behera. Health experts like Dr. Narender Kinger and Dr. Lancelot Pinto, N Ramachandran (moderator).
The police leadership gathered to discuss mental health among their forces handling the pandemic in the country.
N Ramachandran is the founder and president of the Indian Police Foundation. He is a former IPS officer of 1978-batch, Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He retired as the Director General of Police of Meghalaya after 35 years in service.
Dr. AP Maheswari is currently the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force. He is an IPS officer of 1984-batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre. Prior to this charge, Dr. Maheshwari was Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Subodh Jaiswal is currently the Director General of Police, Maharashtra. He is an IPS officer of 1985-batch, Maharashtra cadre. He previously served as the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.
SN Srivastava is the Commissioner of Police, Delhi. He is an IPS officer of 1985-batch, AGMUT cadre. He earlier served as the Special Commissioner, Delhi and as the Special Director General (Training) with the CRPF.
Manoj Yadava is currently the Director General of Police, Haryana. He is an IPS officer of 1988-batch, Haryana cadre. Before this, he served as the Joint Director, Intelligence Bureau.
Praveen Sood is Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka State, Bengaluru. He is an IPS officer of 1986-batch, Karnataka cadre. He earlier served as the Director General of CID’s Economic Offences and Special Units Wing.
AK Singh is the Director General, National Security Guard. He is an IPS officer of 1985-batch, Gujarat cadre. He earlier served as the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad.
Loknath Behera is currently the State Police Chief & Director General of Police, Kerala. He is an IPS officer of 1985-batch, Kerala cadre. He was the former Director of Vigilance, Kerala.
Dr. Narendra Kinger is a consultant in the psychiatry department with specialisation in clinical psychology. He is also a practising clinical psychologist and psychotherapist at Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. He has over 30 years of experience.
Dr. Lancelot Pinto is currently a Consultant Respirologist at Hinduja Healthcare. Dr. Pinto specialises in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep disorders, tuberculosis, among others. He has over 60 publications and has been trained at McGill University, Canada. He continues to collaborate with the University for research and academic pursuits.
