Governance Fellow

IDFC Institute in partnership with the Punjab State Advisory Council (PSAC), Government of Punjab is looking to hire a Governance Fellow on a full-time basis to support the PSAC’s activities.

 

About the Punjab State Advisory Council, Government of Punjab

The Government of Punjab has established a State Advisory Council in order to steer reform initiatives for the State of Punjab, across a range of sectors. The Council comprises a group of experts as well as senior leaders and officials of the State Government and is headed by the Chief Minister. In order to assist the Council in formulation and implementation of the agenda of Governance Reforms they are engaging the services of a group of Governance Fellows, of which the candidate will be a part. The Governance Fellows work under the supervision of the “Lead Governance” to assist PSAC as well as Government Departments with research, analysis, documentation and other intellectual support. 

IDFC Institute has signed an MoU with the Government of Punjab to support the PSAC in three areas of programmatic support based on Government of Punjab’s needs and mutual interests and agreements namely -- on-site capacity support, data driven research and sectoral expertise, network support for areas of expertise beyond IDFC Institute’s remit. 
 

About the Role:

The candidate will work closely with IDFC Institute and the Governance Fellows on the following projects:

  1. Support to a special “Working Group” setup by IDFC Institute and World Economic Forum: This working group is in the process of being setup to develop a blueprint on urban reforms in Punjab, comprising representatives from Government of Punjab, teams from IDFC Institute and the World Economic Forum, other urban experts. The candidate will provide research and analytics support to the Working Group.
  2. Programmatic Support to the State Advisory Council: The candidate will be a part of the existing team of Governance Fellows who are stationed in Chandigarh to: assist in preparation of an agenda for reforms, research, work with specific departments on implementation of proposals for reforms, help in documentation of initiatives and any other work assigned in pursuance of the objective of governance reform.

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A Masters degree in economics, sociology, anthropology, public policy, journalism, or legal studies is required
  • Excellent research, writing and editing skills are required
  • Data analytic skills are extremely desirable. Proficiency in using statistical software such as R, Stata, SQL and Python is a bonus
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in public policy and governance reforms is required. Particular experience in urban development/planning/reform would be extremely desirable
  • Should be comfortable taking initiative and working in a high paced environment in a period of high growth

 

Remuneration:

The successful applicant will be remunerated with a competitive think-tank salary.
