Praveen Chakravarty, Senior Fellow at IDFC Institute, cautions against the growing calls for simultaneous Centre and State elections in India. He says:
"The idea of simultaneous elections for India is based on false premises, [...] Is ₹8,000 crore every five years or ₹1,500 crore every year really that huge a cost for the world’s largest democracy which has a GDP of $1.5 trillion?"
